About the Founder

Ladies and Gentlemen

My name is Pawel Blachowicz. I have been suffering from progressive muscle atrophy since the day I was born. My intellectual development hasn't been hindered by my disability though and I take an active part in the social life of my region, or even Poland or Europe.

Every year I overcome another barrier, break down another stereotype of a disabled person and achieve another success. In 2004 I was a European Volunteer in Great Britain. I worked there in a centre for disabled people and helped local unemployed people to improve their vocational qualifications (I taught them basic computer skills). At the end of 2005 together with a group of former European Volunteers we established the SPRINGBOARD Ex-EVS Association (Stowarzyszenie Uczestników Wolontariatu Europejskiego TRAMPOLINA). At the beginning of 2006 I graduated from university in Finland within the ERASMUS University Charter. These days I am writing my master's thesis about non-formal education in Poland.

I realise though that all these successes I can only achieve because I am lucky to meet kind-hearted people who want to help. Only thanks to my family and friends I was able to reach the place where I am today. I know one thing: a lot of disabled people don't have such opportunities and possibilities as I do. It is very common for them not to leave their own flat at all.

Having thought about my life I came to a conclusion that the time has come to change something. The time to stop asking for help and start to help by myself. I have a dream to change a life of at least one person imprisoned in their own home and to give them a chance. A chance similar to the tens of which I get every day. The result of my dreams and the first step to make them come true is the Foundation I founded. Its name is Equal Though Different Foundation. I have wanted to make people meeting me realise that although we are all different, all of us have equal rights which should not be rectricted by the colour of the skin, religion or disability.

Unfortunately, the reality of today's world is such that no dreams can come true without money. That's why I am kindly asking you for financial, material or personal support for my project. Let's not allow to divide people into better and worse. Together we can help people live. Together we can give them hope and show they are not alone in the everyday struggle.

Yours sincerely
Pawel Błachowicz
